Gap Analysis

Existing honeypot systems and cybersecurity monitoring tools provide valuable capabilities for capturing malicious activities and analyzing attack behavior. However, most solutions focus on specific areas such as network monitoring, malware collection, or enterprise log analysis.

Frameworks such as Cowrie and Dionaea provide detailed logging and attack capture mechanisms but lack centralized management interfaces and extensible web-based vulnerability simulation modules.

Integrated environments such as T-Pot simplify honeypot deployment and monitoring but are primarily designed for advanced security professionals and large-scale environments rather than lightweight research-focused frameworks.

Similarly, Elastic Stack (ELK) offers powerful visualization and log analysis capabilities but does not provide native honeypot deployment features or structured attack simulation workflows.

Based on this analysis, several limitations can be identified in existing solutions:

  • Limited support for modular web vulnerability simulation.
  • Lack of centralized and simplified honeypot management.
  • Complex deployment and configuration procedures.
  • Limited focus on structured web-based attack analysis.
  • Absence of lightweight research-oriented frameworks for educational environments.

WiseTrap addresses these limitations by providing a modular web-based honeypot framework focused on attack simulation, centralized monitoring, structured logging, and extensible cybersecurity research capabilities.
